
Why your bathroom needs a high-IP infrared heater (and why old lamp heaters just don’t cut it)
Ever stepped out of a hot shower into a freezing bathroom? It’s the worst. Most people try to fix this with those old-school lamp heaters, but here’s the truth: they aren’t really built for the steam. The problem is simple. Steam gets everywhere. In a standard heater, that moisture sneaks into the electrical junctions. Once it’s in there, it starts eating away at the terminals. You get corrosion, short circuits, or the whole thing just burns out way faster than it should. That’s where high-IP rated infrared heaters come in. These things are basically sealed tight with gaskets and special coatings. It keeps the water out and the heat in. It’s just safer. But the real magic is how they actually warm you up. Traditional heaters try to warm the air. But in a bathroom—with the vents running and the door opening and closing—that warm air just vanishes. You’re fighting a losing battle. Infrared is different. It doesn’t care about the air; it targets you and the surfaces around you. The second you flip the switch, you feel it. It’s instant. No waiting around shivering while the room slowly warms up. Now, a heads-up if you’re planning to install one: don’t just plug this into a random wall outlet. These units pull a lot of power to get that instant heat, so you’ll need a dedicated circuit. If you try to wing it with your existing wiring, you’re probably just going to trip your breakers. Also, be careful where you mount it. These tubes get seriously hot. If you put one too close to cheap plastic trim, that plastic is going to warp or melt. Give it at least 15cm of breathing room from anything that could burn. And for heaven’s sake, use a proper IP-rated junction box. It’s a small detail, but it’s the difference between a heater that lasts for years and one that becomes a safety hazard.
