
Stop Wasting Heat in Your Fab Drying
Let’s be honest: most drying stages in wafer fab are basically expensive space heaters. You’re pumping in massive amounts of energy, but a huge chunk of that heat just bounces off the walls or leaks into the chassis. It’s a waste of power, and it’s frustrating. We figured out a better way. Instead of letting that energy wander, we use gold-coated reflectors to point it exactly where it needs to go—straight onto the wafer. The trick is in the gold. Standard IR lamps throw heat in every direction. But gold is incredible at reflecting long-wave and medium-wave IR. By coating the reflectors in high-purity gold, we stop the “bleed.” We bounce those watts back toward the product. The result? You get the same drying speed, but you aren’t paying for energy that never actually touches the wafer. It’s all about the geometry. We don’t just slap some gold on a piece of metal. We align the focal point of the parabola perfectly with the wafer plane. This creates a concentrated “hot zone.” Because the heat is so focused, you can actually turn down the lamp wattage and still get the surface temperature you need to flash-evaporate moisture. One heads-up, though: keep an eye on your cooling loops. When you cram that much energy into a tight spot, the lamp housing feels it. If your airflow isn’t dialed in, you might fry the sockets or burn out the lamp ends. It’s a small tweak, but it’s a big deal for the life of your gear. What this actually means for the shop floor.
